A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after allegations surfaced that Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha used a vehicle fitted with a blue beacon while campaigning in the Jamuria Assembly constituency. The opposition has claimed that the use of such a vehicle during election campaigning violates the model code of conduct currently in force.
The allegation comes amid intense campaigning in the constituency, where Sinha was reportedly supporting Trinamool candidate Hare Ram Singh. Opposition leaders alleged that the MP was seen travelling in a car equipped with a blue light during campaign activities, triggering debate in political circles in the industrial belt. Responding to the accusations, Shatrughan Sinha dismissed the claims, stating that although the vehicle had a blue light installed, it was not in use during the campaign. He maintained that he was following administrative rules and insisted that no election guidelines had been violated. According to him, the opposition was attempting to create unnecessary controversy over a minor issue instead of focusing on the election campaign.
The BJP has strongly criticised the incident, with Jamuria candidate Dr. Bijan Mukherjee stating that using a blue-light vehicle during campaign activities amounts to a violation of election rules. He said the party would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission and could approach the court if necessary. The issue has further intensified the political rivalry between the two parties during the ongoing election battle in the region.
